With Issue 9 of SESSIONS Magazine being released at a time when the days are becoming shorter and summer is coming to an end, I was definitely hanging on to some elements of the warm weather, and I don’t mean my Birkenstocks. Don’t get me wrong, one of the things I love about living in Canada is the diversity between the seasons, and in Issue 9 of SESSIONS Magazine I tried to transition from light to dark in a way that I felt was really easy on the eyes…

“I have always been attracted to surreal imagery. I believe that photography as a medium lends a kind of realism to these “fantasies”, allowing it to exist in closer relationship to the viewer. I enjoy that it suggests the possibility of truth.

There is very little control underwater and although I can manipulate any particular set to achieve exactly what I initially envisioned, the unplanned visuals that happen under the surface often determine the direction I take the shoot as it constantly changes and forms new meanings…”

Our original mandate was showcasing beautiful creative photography, over time we were continuously approached to showcase art. The photography medium was good, in fact, we were convinced it was great. However, having artists contribute their work has changed the landscape of the magazine beautifully. It’s become a wonderful blend and has left us in the position to push the envelope.  We still hold true to being a submission based magazine and celebrate the fact. We experience pride in giving artists an avenue for expression, an avenue to showcase their work, an avenue to be recognized by their peers and public. By doing so, we also offer the viewer the joy of sharing in this experience.
